ToggleSony has officially revealed a price increase for its PlayStation 5, commonly referred to as the PS5, across several international markets, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as Australia and New Zealand. In a recent blog post, the company attributed this change to challenging economic conditions characterized by high inflation and the instability of exchange rates. The new pricing will take effect on Monday, April 14. This adjustment comes on the heels of the United States implementing new tariffs on imports during Donald Trump’s administration.
Europe:
PS5 Digital Edition – €499.99 (increased from €449.99)
(The standard edition’s price remains the same)
UK:
PS5 Digital Edition – £429.99 (up from £389.99)
(No changes for the standard edition)
Australia:
Standard PS5 – AUD $829.95
Digital Edition – AUD $749.95 (up from AUD $649.95)
New Zealand:
Standard PS5 – NZD $949.95
Digital Edition – NZD $859.95
It is important to highlight that the prices for the PS5 Pro models have remained stable, indicating that Sony is primarily focusing this price adjustment on the base versions of the console.
Reduction in Disc Drive Prices
In a contrasting move, Sony has reduced the recommended retail price (RRP) for the detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive compatible with the PS5:
Europe: €79.99
UK: £69.99
Australia: AUD $124.95
New Zealand: NZD $139.95

Currently, Sony has not disclosed any alterations to the PS5 pricing in India or the United States. Nevertheless, various reports suggest that emerging tariffs and other obstacles could lead to future price hikes in those regions.
Meanwhile, Sony has raised the costs associated with its PlayStation Plus subscription service across more than 20 countries. This price change will take effect after users’ subsequent billing cycle following June 24. However, any adjustments to memberships made on or after April 16 will be subject to the revised rates.
