After an extended wait exceeding a decade, Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for GTA 6. The eagerly awaited sequel to the highly successful GTA 5 is set to hit shelves worldwide in May of next year. In December 2023, the company released the game’s inaugural trailer, showcasing significant advancements such as a sprawling map reminiscent of Vice City, a groundbreaking female protagonist, improved visuals, and thrilling gameplay that closely mirrors reality.
On X, Rockstar Games confirmed that the GTA 6 release date is now scheduled for May 26, 2026, while also expressing regret over the delay. Initially, the studio had indicated a 2025 release. “We sincerely apologize for this delay,” the company stated. “The immense interest and excitement surrounding the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game have been incredibly motivating for our team. We appreciate your unwavering support and patience as we work toward completing the game.”
Addressing the reason behind the delay, the company emphasized its commitment to meeting and exceeding player expectations. “With every title we introduce, our aim is to surpass the standard you anticipate, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. Please understand that we require this additional time to achieve the level of quality that you, our fans, expect and deserve,” the statement added.
While there’s no concrete release date for the second trailer of GTA 6, the company has indicated that they are eager to share more details soon. “We look forward to providing more information in the near future,” they stated optimistically.
One of the thrilling features of GTA 6 is the introduction of the series’ first-ever female protagonist, named Lucia. Much like GTA 5, the narrative will follow multiple characters, featuring more lifelike personas, enhanced police pursuit dynamics, and refined stealth mechanics. Furthermore, the game is expected to explore deeper digital interactions, making planning heists and missions all the more engaging.
The gameplay map will be inspired by the fictional state of Leonida, echoing the nostalgic essence of Vice City but with significantly upgraded graphics, a larger playable area, and improved overall gameplay. This promises an immersive experience that fans have eagerly awaited for years.
The anticipated price for GTA 6 is expected to start around Rs 5,999 for the standard edition in India, with the special edition potentially retailing at Rs 7,299. In the United States, the game may be priced at approximately $100. Currently, there is no official announcement regarding pre-order availability.
