In a statement, WhatsApp noted, “From thrilling sporting events to gripping season finales or sharing significant news, there are moments when talking with people present is essential. This is why we are introducing voice chats for every group size, enabling you to engage live via audio without needing to exit your group chat or initiate a separate call.”

What sets this new feature apart is its quiet, unobtrusive nature. When you initiate a voice chat, there are no ringing notifications or alerts. Instead, group members can see an ongoing voice chat and join at their convenience, promoting a relaxed and spontaneous interaction.

How to initiate a voice chat: To kick off a voice chat, navigate to your group chat, swipe up from the bottom, and hold for a few seconds. This simple action begins the voice chat and keeps it pinned at the bottom of your group chat screen, making it easily accessible. Members have the flexibility to join and leave the voice chat whenever they wish, making it ideal for light conversations. Before joining, participants can also see who’s already active in the chat.
