HIGHLIGHTS

The anticipated arrival of Solo Leveling Season 3 may not occur until 2028.

The combined production efforts for the two seasons required over 220,000 animation frames and nearly four years to complete, beginning in 2021.

This extended timeline could contribute positively to the iconic animation quality that fans have come to admire.

Since its premiere in early 2024, Solo Leveling has captivated the anime community like few others. With breathtaking visuals, an engaging plot, and fast-paced action sequences, it quickly amassed a dedicated following. Fans celebrated the release of Season 2, which seamlessly continued the adventures of protagonist Sung Jin-Woo. Yet, now all eyes are on the much-anticipated third season.

Recent reports suggest that the wait for Solo Leveling Season 3 might extend as far as 2028. Here’s what we know about the delay and the factors leading to it.

Delay in Solo Leveling Season 3

At a special screening event titled “For Your Consideration,” held by Crunchyroll in California, the creators and cast of Solo Leveling engaged with fans during a live Q&A session. When inquired about the release of Season 3, Aniplex producer Sota Furuhashi confirmed that the anime will definitely continue, but humorously noted that fans might have to wait “until the next Olympics,” hinting at a release around 2028.

Considering that Season 2 arrived just a year after the first, expectations had built up for a rapid follow-up. However, it now appears the studio is opting for a more extended break.

Reasons for the Extended Wait

While Seasons 1 and 2 were released relatively close together, their production spanned several years. Furuhashi highlighted that both seasons demanded an astonishing 220,000 animation frames and nearly four years of dedicated work, starting back in 2021.

The animation studio, A-1 Pictures, is renowned for juggling multiple high-caliber projects simultaneously. This could indicate that their resources are currently stretched thin, necessitating the additional time to ensure the signature animation quality that fans adore is preserved.
