According to Google’s announcement, the core of the problem is related to battery swelling, which can manifest in several noticeable ways, including:

Free battery replacement

If your Pixel 7a meets the eligibility criteria, you can receive a complimentary battery replacement. However, there are specific conditions that may impact your eligibility; for example, devices impacted by water damage, sharp objects, or drops may not qualify. Additionally, if your device has a cracked screen or back glass, Google may levy a fee for the repair of these parts.

Battery replacement services are currently accessible at walk-in repair centers across several nations, including the US, India, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore. Furthermore, users in the US and India have options for mail-in repairs.

Cash and discount options

In regions where repair services are not available, Google has opted to provide monetary compensation instead:

• For out-of-warranty users: $200 in cash or a discount of $300 on a new Pixel phone
• For under-warranty users: a cash payout of $456

Please note that these compensation options are not applicable in the US and India, where both mail-in and walk-in repair services are available. It’s also essential to understand that once you select a compensation option, this decision is final and cannot be changed later.
