ToggleSamsung is steadily rolling out its One UI 7 update, which is based on Android 15, for devices like the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Meanwhile, information about the anticipated One UI 8 has begun circulating online. This forthcoming update is poised to be based on Android 16 and is expected to introduce a plethora of fresh features, a redesigned interface, and expanded customization options for current device users. Although exact specifications of the update are yet to be confirmed, leaks have emerged outlining the projected release schedule, supported devices, and an array of prospective features. Here’s what we’ve uncovered thus far.
Historically, Samsung has traditionally paired the launch of a new Android version with the release of its latest S series device on an annual basis. However, recent reports indicate that the company may initiate the rollout of One UI 8 as early as July. It appears that the Android 16 update will be preinstalled on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, with wider distribution planned in a phased approach to additional devices.
As for One UI 7, there are indications that Samsung may overlook incremental updates such as One UI 7.1.1, instead opting to deliver One UI 8 directly to qualifying devices. This decision seems to stem from the delayed rollout of One UI 7, compelling the tech giant to expedite the transition to its next major update.
The anticipated rollout of the Android 16 update is expected to encompass a wide array of Samsung smartphones. This list is likely to feature flagship models, including the Galaxy S25 series (and its Edge variant), as well as the Galaxy S24, S23, S22, and S21 lines. Expect foldable models like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Fold 5, Fold 4, and the Z Flip 6, Flip 5, and Flip 4 to also be included in this critical update.
Additionally, models from the Galaxy A series such as the A73, A56, A55, A54, A53, A36, A35, A34, A33, A25, A24, A23, and A15 are anticipated to be part of the update rollout. Devices from the F series, including the Galaxy F55, F54, F34, F16, F15, and F06, are also predicted to receive Android 16. It’s important to note that Samsung has yet to officially verify this list.
The Android 16-based One UI 8 is anticipated to introduce several new features, including Log Video recording capabilities alongside Now Brief for older devices. Users may notice visual enhancements with an organized layout for apps like Gallery and My Files. Samsung is reportedly still in the process of developing additional functionality.
