ToggleAlcatel, the renowned French technology brand, has officially announced its comeback to the Indian market. This marks an exciting phase as the company gears up to unveil a new lineup of smartphones that will prioritize local production and technological innovation. The news follows a significant statement by Madhav Sheth, who has revealed that Alcatel is keen on establishing a robust presence in India.
Operating under the umbrella of TCL Communications via a licensing agreement with Nokia, Alcatel aims to re-establish itself with a varied portfolio of smartphones. This range will include both premium models and devices equipped with stylus support, catering to a diverse audience. However, precise details regarding the specific models and their specifications remain undisclosed at this stage.
“I am excited to announce the return of ‘Alcatel’ smartphones in India. Collaborating closely with the Nxtcell team, I will lead initiatives for technology transfer, drive patent-driven innovation, and ensure that our local manufacturing efforts resonate with India’s broader goal of technological self-reliance. We have successfully finalized technology agreements, and our local manufacturing projects are poised to significantly enhance India’s tech ecosystem while also boosting exports,” Madhav Sheth stated in a recent post on X, expressing his enthusiasm for the venture.
Interestingly, four Alcatel models—namely the Idol 4, U5 HD, 3X, and OneTouch Flash 6042D—were previously listed as “Coming Soon” on Flipkart. However, these listings have since been removed from the e-commerce platform, generating curiosity among potential buyers.

Reports suggest that the very first Alcatel smartphone to debut in India will come with stylus support. While specific details related to the device’s market positioning are still under wraps, it is confirmed that it will be manufactured locally and made available through Flipkart, highlighting Alcatel’s commitment to the Indian audience.
The return of Alcatel to the Indian market is particularly noteworthy at a time when other brands like Honor seem to be retreating from the competitive smartphone landscape. Historically, Alcatel was active in the Indian telecom market during the 1990s, but it gradually faded from prominence following the merger of Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia’s acquisition in 2016. The brand’s last mobile device was sold in India back in 2018, marking a long hiatus.
In a related development, Madhav Sheth has also hinted at Honor receiving approvals for launching five of its products in India, stirring speculation about the future trajectory of that brand amidst these changes in the smartphone industry.
