There are whispers from industry insider Rishi Alwani’s newsletter, 0451 Games, indicating that Nintendo representatives attended the India Gaming Show 2024 in February. During this event, they engaged with various vendors to explore the possibility of an official release in India. Although these conversations are ongoing and lack official confirmation, there’s a chance that the Switch 2 could eventually make its way to Indian shores.
Even if an official launch remains uncertain, it’s likely that the Switch 2 will find its way into the grey market. This scenario mirrors what happened during the release of the original Switch, where traders prepared to stock the device ahead of time. Some customers have reportedly begun placing deposits to secure their launch-day units, with one trader stating, “Like the Switch launch, I don’t anticipate having enough stock available after day one,” according to 0451 Games.
Experts in the industry project that, due to the grey market dynamics, the initial prices for the Switch 2 might soar by as much as 45% above the U.S. price. This could translate to early buyers paying around Rs 55,000 ($650) at launch, with prices expected to stabilize around Rs 45,000 ($530) thereafter. Should Nintendo decide to officially launch the console in India, pricing might clock in at a 20-25% increase compared to the U.S. price, suggesting a range between Rs 45,000 and Rs 48,000.
The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is generating buzz with its anticipated hardware enhancements. Rumored specifications include a 7.9-inch LCD display that supports 4K output at an impressive 120fps. Exciting new features may also be introduced, such as revamped joy-con controllers equipped with mouse functionality and a dedicated C button for GameChat. Additionally, the Switch 2 may come with advanced red game cartridges, 256GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD Express), and spatial 3D sound support, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
