ToggleChatGPT has once again encountered significant operational challenges, resulting in widespread outages across the globe. Following the launch of an image generation feature, users have found it increasingly difficult to access the platform for their routine tasks, primarily because of ongoing system errors reported in shared prompts.
Recent data from Downdetector indicates that the peak of this outage occurred in the late evening hours, with a staggering 2,000 complaint reports originating from users in the United States, while more than 200 users in India also reported similar issues. The complaints have primarily focused on ChatGPT, which accounted for over 80% of the total reports. In comparison, the website itself received 18% of the complaints, and the application made up the remaining 6%.
This recent service interruption follows a similar incident just 24 hours prior on Tuesday evening. During that outage, there were 1,594 reports of issues raised globally, with 94% of these complaints specifically targeting the ChatGPT platform. This trend has raised serious concerns regarding OpenAI’s capacity to accommodate the rapidly increasing demand for generative AI services.
The user community, expressing their growing frustration, has turned to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a plethora of humorous memes, critiques, and videos to mock ChatGPT’s recurrent outages throughout the week. Among the most talked-about elements are sarcastic comments directed at CEO Sam Altman, particularly in reference to his remarks, “You are not ready for the images tool version 2,” which have made the rounds in user discussions.
Although the specific cause of this persistent malfunction remains unclear, speculation suggests that the surging popularity of the chatbot may be at the root of the problem. OpenAI previously announced that it had gained over 1 million new users within the span of just one hour, significantly increasing the platform’s load. Furthermore, following the recent surge in online conversations surrounding the Ghibli trend, the company seems to be under greater scrutiny.
In a noteworthy twist, OpenAI recently rolled out the Ghibli-style image generation tool for free users, adding to the appeal of its offerings. However, due to the influx of new users, the company implemented restrictions, limiting users to three image generations per day. As of now, it remains uncertain when normal ChatGPT services will resume, leaving users in a state of anticipation. Stay tuned with Digit for ongoing updates regarding this situation.
