The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is currently facing a major service outage that is significantly impacting users throughout India. Customers trying to use major digital payment platforms, such as Google Pay and Paytm, are reporting difficulties completing transactions. In light of this, numerous users have taken to social media platforms to express their frustrations and post complaints about the ongoing issues.

As per reports compiled by Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, there are currently over 3,000 alerts regarding UPI-related problems. An analysis of those reports indicates that approximately 81% of users are facing issues specifically with payment transactions. In addition, around 14% of users are struggling with fund transfers, while 5% are encountering problems with the functionality of the application itself. This widespread outage underscores the heavy reliance on digital payment methods in India.

Update: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has acknowledged the occurrence of the outage. In a recent post on X, the NPCI stated, “We faced intermittent technical issues leading to a partial decline in UPI services. The matter has been addressed, and the system is now stabilizing. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to users.”
