These improvements lead to a pressing question: is the Google Pixel 9a indeed superior to its predecessor, the Pixel 8a? What follows is a detailed comparison of their specifications and pricing.
In India, the Google Pixel 9a priced at Rs 49,999 for the 128GB storage variant, presents an appealing option for consumers. While the Pixel 9a showcases upgrades and a more competitive launch price when compared to the Pixel 8a, the substantial price drop of the older model may still catch the eye of those seeking budget-friendly options.
The Google Pixel 9a is powered by the latest Tensor G4 chipset, in contrast to the Tensor G3 utilized in the Pixel 8a. Both smartphones are equipped with the Titan M2 security chip, 8GB of RAM, and offer dual storage options of 128GB and 256GB.
The Google Pixel 9a is supported by a durable 5,100mAh battery, which features 23W fast charging support. In comparison, the Pixel 8a has a smaller 4,492mAh battery and is limited to 18W charging capabilities.
The Pixel 9a flaunts a larger 6.3-inch pOLED display equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate, achieving peak brightness of 2700 nits and HDR support. It also benefits from durable protection via Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Pixel 8a, by contrast, features a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen, also at 120Hz but with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, and is equally protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The camera system in the Pixel 9a includes a 48MP Quad PD Dual Pixel wide rear camera, accompanied by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.7 aperture. This primary camera is further enhanced by an impressive ½-inch image sensor size, enabling Super Res Zoom up to 8x, while also incorporating both optical and electronic image stabilization for sharper images. For wider shots, the phone comes with a 13MP ultrawide camera featuring an f/2.2 aperture and a 13MP front-facing camera for selfies.
In contrast, the Pixel 8a is outfitted with a 64MP OIS primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens, along with a similar 13MP front camera for selfies.
The design of the Pixel 8a features a sleek back panel integrated with a camera bar and is framed in aluminum. The Pixel 9a, however, takes a different approach by eliminating the iconic camera bar in favor of a more refined rear panel design. Notably, the Pixel 9a achieves an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, offering superior protection compared to the IP67 rating of the earlier Pixel 8a, enhancing its durability in challenging conditions.
