OpenAI’s Operator AI agent is now available in India, Brazil, Canada, and several other nations.

Accessing Operator’s features requires a $200/month ChatGPT Pro subscription.

Operator can manage tasks like shopping, making bookings, and meme generation, while users maintain control.

OpenAI has broadened the reach of its innovative AI agent, known as Operator, across a range of countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Initially launched in the United States last month, this advanced AI technology will require users to subscribe to the ChatGPT Pro plan to leverage Operator’s functionalities. Notably, the Operator is currently unavailable in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Iceland.

For those unfamiliar with the tool, Operator is an AI agent developed by OpenAI that has the capability to browse the internet and perform various tasks autonomously. By simulating human interactions online through typing, clicking, and scrolling, Operator can manage a myriad of activities such as grocery shopping, completing online forms, and even crafting memes.

The magic behind Operator lies in its innovative model known as the Computer-Using Agent (CUA). This model is adept at interacting with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and combines high-level reasoning with the visual acumen of GPT-4. This means that Operator is equipped to autonomously execute tasks while still allowing users to regain control whenever necessary. As of now, the Operator is available in a research preview phase specifically for ChatGPT Pro users, and it is projected to evolve over time. Please note that gaining access to ChatGPT requires you to subscribe to the $200/month Pro plan.

OpenAI aims to eventually make Operator available to all ChatGPT subscribers, though the specific timeline for this rollout remains uncertain. If successful, OpenAI could find itself directly competing with major technology companies such as Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit, all of which are advancing their own AI agent technologies. Currently, Google’s AI agent is accessible only via a waitlist, Anthropic provides its solutions via API, and Rabbit offers actionable models for users.

Utilizing Operator is straightforward; simply articulate the task you wish to accomplish, and the AI will take care of the details. Users can seamlessly intervene at any point, especially during delicate operations such as logging in or solving CAPTCHAs. You also have the option to customize workflows by adding specific instructions and saving frequently used prompts for easy and rapid access. This feature opens doors to efficiently managing multiple tasks, whether it’s shopping or making various bookings.
